Publisher Description
Ayn Rand’s dystopic science-fiction novella takes place at some unspecified future date. Mankind has entered another dark age as a result of what Rand saw as the weaknesses of socialistic thinking and economics. Technological advancement is now carefully planned -- when it is allowed to occur at all -- and the concept of individuality has been eliminated. As is common in her work, Rand draws a clear distinction between the “socialist/communal” values of equality and brotherhood and the “productive/capitalist” values of achievement and individuality.

for anyone unfamiliar w/ Rand
The Not Sure review from Brenda Harris is uninformed, and I just wanted to make clear that Ayn Rand's name is spelled Ayn not Ann, regardless of what it may sound like. Also, Rand is always wordy, but Anthem is one of her earlier works -- her 3rd published work to be precise. $0.95 is a worthy investment for a legendary title in audio with a qualified narrator.

Don't hesitate for a second. Buy it. This is the best $0.95 cents you'll ever spend. Find a quiet place or, if you're like me, go for a long walk and turn it on and keep walking. You'll feel like you are there. The narrator nails it. Well done! A world of people who are numbered. No individuality allowed. But, man becomes what he/she must become. People are individuals. WE are each different and we have a right to be that.... "unique", individual. If not allowed to ?..... Find out... Listen to this. It's thought provoking....! Written in 1937 and it's relevant today!
Loved it
We put this on my iPod and listened to it in the car. I found it to be thought provoking and simple enough for my 6th grader to join the conversation. As far as being wordy...I kind of buy books for their words.
