Excellent
A fine classic. Antiquated language and social ideologies might be difficult for some. If you can get pass that the story paints an accurate picture of the period known as 'The Terror'. For me what made it memorable was heart rending finale.
Excellent production of a classic
This got me through 3 very long road trips - even though I was familiar with the story, hearing every word read beautifully was a fine re-introduction to Charles Dickens. It was my understanding that this re-release was in conjunction with his 100th anniversary - anyway, this is a top-notch newly recorded audio book, and a great economic choice for putting in some long hours! I'm looking for another now.
Jacques is not pronounced 'Jakay'
This book has merit simply by being so darn cheap, and the reader has a clear narration and decent repertoire of voices to help differentiate characters. However, he's sloppy in his editing, mispronounces quite a few words and needs to work on his French accents, which are reminiscent of Pepe Le Pew. My biggest beef is with his bungling the pronunciation of the name Jacques, which is repeated quite often throughout the book. If you can look past those relatively minor foibles, then you still get to hear a great novel!
