About Turnip King

Turnip King are a dream pop band from Sea Cliff, New York. Citing bands such as Helium and Eric's Trip as influences, they incorporate catchy indie pop hooks into their blown-out, effects-heavy psychedelic jams. The group formed in 2011 when members Lucia Arias, Cal Fish, Nick Kivien, and Christian Billard were still high-school students. Their countless basement sessions resulted in several demos posted online as well as their debut EP, Moon Landing?, which was released by Fire Talk in 2013. Subsequently, Billard and Fish attended classes at Bard College, and Kivien left the band and formed Sunflower Bean. Turnip King stayed active, however, playing hundreds of gigs around the New York area. Joined by bassist Ken Winfield, the band recorded its debut album, Laika, with engineer Ernie Indradat in Hoboken, New Jersey and upstate New York. Fire Talk released Laika in August of 2016. ~ Paul Simpson
