Florida rapper Tokyo Jetz turned viral fame into a deal with T.I.’s Grand Hustle label. • Originally a poet, she tried rapping on the suggestion of her older brother. The first song she ever made became a popular ringtone around Jacksonville. • The rapper rose to fame with a viral freestyle of Yo Gotti’s “DM,” which prompted her to drop the mixtape Flyy Shit Only in 2016. • She immediately caught the attention of T.I., who signed her to his Grand Hustle label and moved her from Jacksonville to Atlanta. • In 2017, Tokyo Jetz released her debut album, Viral, which features artists like T.I., London Jae, and Que. • Tokyo Jetz honored the birth of her son, Amir, with a 2019 song named for him. It showcases the highs and lows of pregnancy and motherhood. • In 2020, she published the book Mind Over Matter to raise awareness about mental health issues like anxiety and depression in the Black community.
