About Sinclair

A passionate singer, guitarist, and songwriter, Julia Sinclair (aka Sinclair) makes exuberant acoustic- and electronic-tinged pop. Raised in Madrid, New York, Sinclair grew up in a large, religious family with a father who was an evangelical minister. Encouraged to play music from a young age, she initially started out playing piano and guitar around age seven, and quickly learned how to play a variety of instruments including cello, mandolin, bass, and drums. A gifted classical and jazz guitarist, she won accolades throughout her youth competing in local and national competitions. By her teens, she was also writing her own pop-oriented songs, drawing upon such influences as the Beatles, Nick Drake, the Police, Oasis, and Chicago. Along with playing live shows, she began posting songs online, and eventually caught the ear of industry executives Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and Rodney Jerkins. Buoyed by the attention, Sinclair traveled to Los Angeles, where she began recording with a handful of producers, including John Alagia (John Mayer, Dave Matthews), and Nolan Sipe (Andy Grammer, Colbie Caillat). Despite her early success, Sinclair realized that she needed to express herself more honestly, and at the age of 20, came out to her family as gay. The revelation put her at odds with their conservative religious beliefs, and in 2011 she moved to Nashville. In 2014, she released her debut EP, Sweet Talk, featuring the song "This Too Shall Pass." Two years later, she returned with her second EP, Colorblind, which found her moving in a synthier, more dance-oriented direction. In 2017, Sinclair delivered the single "Pop! Champagne." ~ Matt Collar
