About Alacranes Musical

Translated as “Musical Scorpions,” the band’s name is a nod to the semi-desert environment of the founders’ home state of Durango, Mexico. ∙ They helped pioneer Duranguense, a style of uptempo, synth-enhanced traditional music that first emerged in Chicago’s Mexican community in the early 2000s. ∙ Ahora y Siempre, which features their popular cover of Cristian Castro’s “Por Amarte Así,” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart. ∙ In 2008, the band won a Best Banda Album Latin Grammy for Tu Inspiración. ∙ They performed at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 2009, breaking an attendance record previously set by The Cheetah Girls and Hannah Montana.
