Oliver Cromwell Part 1: The Rise of Ironsides

Oliver Cromwell Part 1: The Rise of Ironsides

Say “Oliver Cromwell” today and certain things come to mind. He won the English Civil War and prompted the execution of Charles I. He purged the realm with such zeal that he even cancelled Christmas. In Ireland, where Cromwell’s troops besieged its towns with a notorious barbarity, his name is still used as a curse. “The greatest prince that ever ruled England”, as one historian called him? Or, as Winston Churchill would counter, a tyrant and a despot?

Enver Hoxha Part 1: The Albanian School Teacher

Enver Hoxha Part 1: The Albanian School Teacher

From 1944 to 1985, Enver Hoxha ran Albania as an extraordinarily repressive Stalinist dictatorship. But how did a middle class teacher from the provinces become the most powerful man in the country and a key player in the communist world? What did he do to turn Albania into one of the most isolated countries in the world? And how did ‘Uncle Enver’ keep his citizens in the dark for so much of the 20th century?
A Noiser production, written by Sean Coleman. Many thanks to Bernd Fischer, Artan Hoxha and Shannon Woodcock.

Excellent podcast!

The Great Dictators podcast is my go to podcast when I’m working out at the gym. What I like about it is the great research and script writing but most importantly the straightforward and excellent narration by seasoned British actor Paul McGann whose voice is easy to listen to. I would rate The Great Dictators as the best podcast of all I’ve ever listened to. 👏👏

I love this show and I think one of the next dictators should be Assad since he is still in power

People who call this show left winged baffle me because this show covers dictators in a more historical context.

This show has fantastic intros for dictators and the detail on their lives and motivations can only be described a perfect medium cooked steak.

(The point of their motivations could be addressed a little bit sooner but other than that they’re no real complaints from me.)
