Fantastic app!

This app has done a great job teaching me the basics of Icelandic. I’m used to more textbook learning styles, so this has been different and fun! It was hard for me to find any good resources for learning Icelandic, a language I’ve been wanting to learn for a long time, so I’m super happy that I found this app. It’s clear to understand and helps the words and phrases stick in your head easily. I’d highly recommend it to anyone who’s serious about learning a language.

I can’t write a proper review without a little critique though, so I will say I would add a few things. Instead of just having a list of words, I would like to see some sort of flash card feature where you can quiz yourself. The little sliding games are fun, and they do a good job of teaching you, but I feel like a separate section with flash cards would add another layer onto the learning. Also, I wish you had an option to see the picture AND the English word above the one you’re trying to learn, just because when you’re going through them quickly it’s easy to associate just the picture with the Icelandic word, instead of what the picture MEANS (If that makes any sense).

Other than those small things, I LOVE the app and I might even try it for another language in the future. Keep up the good work!

Love it!!

I’m wanting to learn Icelandic, because it is the most ancient-still-spoken Germanic language, and I’d like to keep it alive. I speak English, some Spanish, some Portuguese, German and understand Yiddish. Being able to speak German does help with Icelandic for sure, except for pronunciation. Very glad it has spoken voice on here, as I try to master accent while learning languages. I just wish it had both male and female pronunciation, to catch different tones, to further understand how I (as a male) should be sounding. If you learn a language by hearing only female voice, you can pick up feminine voice manipulations, which might throw off your listener, or throw YOU off when you hear a man speak. Other than that, 100% love it!

It’s a good app for a beginning student of Icelandic

The app thus far has done a good job of covering the basics of the Icelandic language. It also splits words into categories, such as food and essential daily conversational words. However, it can be difficult to understand the pronunciation of certain words or phrases, and could use more activities with regard to that aspect. It seems that I am learning the language but not how to speak it. Additionally, it has you match Icelandic words with images that are often vague. For example, “Takk fyrir”, which means “Thank you”, is represented by the symbol of someone giving a thumbs up. “Vinsemlegast”, which means “Please!” is represented by a similar image of a man begging. Some of these images serve to confuse. Nonetheless, it’s a good app, and is really beneficial toward helping me learn.
