Wish

Wish

Sutton Foster’s debut album is also somewhat of a greatest hits compilation. The Tony Award-winning actress, singer and dancer has been one of Broadway’s most productive leading ladies since her big break in 2002 as Millie Mar for the Broadway production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. She’s since fronted stages for big money productions playing Jo March in Little Women, Janett Van De Graaff in The Drowsy Chaperone, Inga October in Young Frankenstein and Princess Fiona in the 2008 stage performance of Shrek. Wish is an album that pulls songs from some of the aforementioned musicals as well as various show tunes that have inspired her along the way. A wonderfully playful version of Duke Ellington’s “I’m Beginning To See The Light” opens with a festive cabaret flare before downshifting into a smoky rendition of “Warm All Over” from the 1956 production of Frank Loesser’s The Most Happy Fella.  Even the John Denver hit “Sunshine On My Shoulders” takes on new life under Foster’s lilting and energetic timbre. Throughout Wish Foster displays an exceptional versatility whether she takes on cabaret, jazz, Broadway standards or pop.
