Husband-and-wife Americana duo Carolina Story have covered a lot of ground together over the past decade. So the hard-touring Nashville outfit have a lot of learned wisdom to share on their lullaby of a debut studio album. Their music is rooted in warm, soothing vocal harmonies, with Emily Roberts’ low, throaty voice anchoring Ben Roberts’ twangier high-register notes and familiar old-time sounds of pedal steel, acoustic guitar, and harmonica. Despite their country roots, there’s no hellraising or bar-hopping to be found; family lies at the core of their songs, with “We Were Young Once Too” and “Your Children’s Children” built on that sweet, weary, lived-in kind of love that comes after many years and a few kids in tow.
