Love To Live

On Love to Live, the Living Sisters achieve a light and creamy vocal blend that’s all but irresistible. Each of the trio’s members — Inara George, Becky Stark and Eleni Mandell — has enjoyed previous success as a recording artist. Their first joint endeavor takes inspiration from ‘50s-era pop-vocal groups (especially the Paris Sisters), with touches of traditional country and R&B added. The Sisters’ three-part harmonies are gorgeous, lending tracks like the billowy “How Are You” and the caressing “Cradle” a tingle-inducing glow. The trio revives old styles without a trace of irony — playfully romantic numbers like “Double Knots” and “Hold Back” convey a genuine warmth and sexiness. (The bittersweet “Blue” even tosses in some “shoo-bops” without any embarrassment.) Complimenting the Sisters’ smoothly melodic originals are a teasing cover of the folk standard “Good Old Wagon” and a crisp, soulful rendition of Nancy Wilson’s “(You Don’t Know) How Glad I Am.” Sparse arrangements built around chiming guitars and murmuring organs add extra sparkle.
