The Right Thing (Remixes)

The Right Thing (Remixes)

Anyone who couldn’t get enough of Moby’s sultry cut “The Right Thing” from his 10th studio album, Destroyed, will be happy to find seven different versions steaming up this EP. The “Sharam Jey Remix” opens with sweeping synths providing a windswept atmosphere; over this, analog-sounding keyboard tones oscillate alongside the soulful voice of Brooklyn singer Inyang Bassey. Things get more spacy with the “Ben Hoo Derivation,” where muted and reverberated drumbeats gurgle with a deep underwater sound, letting Bassey’s powerful voice stand tall over a flowering periphery of ambience. This is followed by “Dan Levy from The Dø Remix”—a haunting rendition with a plodding bass and unsettling background sounds. Cosmonauts give the song back to the dance floor with accessible rhythms, bolt-on percussion, and retro keyboards seeped in '80s tones and textures. At seven minutes and 40 seconds, the “Kleerup Version” dynamically layers elements; it starts with a shimmering keyboard playing under Bassey, followed by a roomy drumbeat. “Man Without Country Remix” closes with wall-to-wall distortion.
