Love Come to Life

Love Come to Life

Love Comes to Life adds a mainstream pop twist to the veteran Christian quintet’s approach. The fusion of acoustic folk instrumentation and driving rhythms that earned the group comparisons with Dave Matthews Band are less in evidence this time out. Still, lead singer Mike Weaver and his cohorts bring their freewheeling energy to these tracks, adding touches of fiddle and banjo to leaven the predominant keyboards and electric guitars. In tandem with such collaborators as Phil Wickham and ex-Delirious member Stu Garrard, Weaver offers a batch of worshipful tunes with a humble Everyman vibe. “The Only Name (Will Be Yours),” “Jesus Move," and the title number combine dynamic thrust with soaring devotional content. More nuanced tracks like “Maker of the Wind” (riding a shimmering folk-rock groove) and “Overwhelmed” (building to an uplifting choir finale) help balance more straight-ahead tunes like “Magnificent God” and “Save My Life.” Whatever the music setting, Weaver applies his affable Southern-inflected vocals to messages of redemption and freedom, served up with an irrepressible spirit.
