Nocturnos de Andalucía

Nocturnos de Andalucía

In this record, Swiss guitarist Christoph Denoth performs the music of three great 20th century Spanish composers. The album’s centerpiece is Lorenzo Palomo’s Nocturnos de Andalucía (Andalucian Nocturnes), a rich and original work filled with sentiment. Throughout its six movements Denoth soars though a full range of emotions and styles, from moments whose cracking raw energy are reminiscent of Stravinsky to passages of Mahlerian lyricism. Denoth’s arrangement of Malats’s Serenata Española brings out its Spanish rhythms and melodies, punctuating the album with charm and sophistication. López-Cobos and the LSO also dazzle here, demonstrating their stylistic dexterity and finesse as performers.
