Lost at Sea 2

Lost at Sea 2

The original Lost At Sea, released in 2016, serves mostly as an introduction to then-burgeoning R&B talent Jacquees. Birdman may have had co-billing, but his contributions were limited to a handful of verses, making the pairing seem more like an exercise in branding than an opportunity to capitalize on their collaborative chemistry. Lost At Sea 2, however, is a much truer collaborative effort, the Cash Money label head dusting off his microphone to match verses with the singer, whose official 2018 debut, 4275, proved him a genuine force in modern R&B. If Birdman is the harder edge to Jacquees’ celebrated melodies, the thing they have most in common is a love for money—the dominant theme across LAS 2. “Anythang” is a reference to what the pair is willing to blow to get a woman’s attention in the club, “I Got,” featuring Trey Songz, is an account of how much money they walk around with, and “Go Harder” is a mantra outlining what they must do to reach the next level of financial security. Women, naturally, are another source of inspiration for the pair, but for Lost At Sea 2 at least, Birdman and Jacquees are bound by that old adage of practicality: no romance without finance.
