Virgin Ubiquity II

Virgin Ubiquity II

Along with the whopping 14 albums that Roy Ayers Ubiquity recorded between 1976 and 1981, the vibraphonist and his rotating band also put down scores of unreleased songs. Following up on its earlier Virgin Ubiquity compilation, British label BBE collects 14 previously unheard jams here, spanning the full breadth of Ayers' compositional brilliance—there’s the breakbeat shout-along propulsion of "Tarzan," the synth-driven, disco-inflected "Kwajilori," and the rubbery, electro-funking "Third Time." Ayers' signature song, "Sunshine," appears here as a mellow, intimate demo.
