We Are Night Sky

We Are Night Sky

Emerging from the unlikely locale of Houma, Louisiana, the two-person Deadboy & the Elephantmen are leaner than the White Stripes, groovier than the Strokes, and tougher than Queens of the Stone Age. Combining the best elements of their classic rock and punk heroes (T-Rex, The Stooges, The Misfits, David Bowie) with a stripped-down, gutsy, sound and the throaty, pitch-perfect howl of singer-songwriter-guitarist Dax Riggs, We Are Night Sky has the dynamism and personality of great rock’n’roll. Riggs’ is able to turn a preoccupation with death and darkness into fist-pumping anthems (“Stop, I’m Already Dead,” “How Long The Night Was”), brooding acoustic balladry (“Walking Stick,” “Evil Friend”), and ripping punk rock (“Blood Music,” “Kissed By Lightning”). Tessie Brunet’s drums provide the perfect foil for Riggs’ gothic tendencies; her no-nonsense drumming goes straight to the chest, even when she is guiding a song at a snail’s pace (“Dressed Up In Smoke”). Rock music doesn’t come more effective than We Are Night Sky: fun, fierce, and not a second wasted.
