Calloused doesn’t disappoint thanks to the Alabama metalcore outfit’s ferocious lyric content and blistering sonic thrust. Songs like “Savage,” “World of Hurt,” and “Drifter” are driven home with potent breakdowns and crushing yet agile rhythms. The delicate instrumental textures of “The Pulse” provide a contemplative interlude between the visceral assault of “The Limit” and “Prison Eyes.” With singer David McWhorter leading the charge, Gideon battle demons with a desperate fury that’s backed up with unshakable faith.
