Evergreen

Evergreen

Of the countless popsmiths who aspire to follow in Lorde's footsteps, Broods have a pretty good shot: the brother-sister duo of Caleb and Georgia Nott are also from New Zealand, and they share the "Royals" singer's producer, Joel Little. Comprised of tempestuous pop with electronic flourishes, their debut shows a resemblance to their countrywoman's music but distinguishes itself, too: the single "Bridges" pulses with alt-R&B wooziness, and "Four Walls" is futuristic quiet storm. With Georgia's layered vocals and the swirling synths throughout, Evergreen is a bumpy ride, throbbing with urgent energy, like Portishead by way of Destiny's Child.
