Full Cold Moon

Full Cold Moon

Not quite the next Cold Cave album, Full Cold Moon is a compilation that cobbles together four sold-out singles and a digital EP meant to bash the reset button on Wesley Eisold's experimental synth-pop project. Now separated from Matador Records and his last recurring collaborator (Hospital Productions head Dominick Fernow), Eisold brings Cold Cave back to where it began: his bedroom. So while 2011's Cherish the Light Years LP was a widescreen presentation throughout, everything Eisold writes these days is battery-powered and on the brink of a nervous breakdown. A positive one, mind you, cleansing one's creative palette and facing deeply personal questions head-on. Luckily for us listeners, Eisold can't help but write consistent hooks, even when they're coated in dust and dragged through the dirt. Sneak past the minimal drum machines and steam-pressed synths, and you'll find the singer/producer searching for meaning in the melodies of standout tracks like "A Little Death to Laugh," "Oceans with No End," and "God Made the World." We can't help but join him.
