Point of No Return (Bonus Track Version)

Point of No Return (Bonus Track Version)

It’s a testament to Frank Sinatra’s vocal genius that even when hurriedly recording an album, he sings with heart and empathy that lasts a lifetime. Point of No Return, his final album for Capitol before moving to his own Reprise label, was recorded in two two-hour sessions with Axel Stordahl, the arranger/conductor who worked with Sinatra in the ‘40s and on the first Capitol sessions in 1953 (the final four tracks). Stordahl was ill with cancer, but his work here is, arguably, the best of his career. (Ghost arranger Heine Beau also excels.) The songs, largely concerning parting, are first-rate.
