The prolific garage-psych agitators Thee Oh Sees come out surprisingly sweet on this ominously titled 2012 album. After the haunted Krautrock vibe of the acid-fried opener “Wax Face,” the San Francisco band slow down to explore ‘60s-steeped power pop on “Hang a Picture” and wobbly vocal effects and droning strings on “So Nice.” “Will We Be Scared?” plays like a quaint formal-night ballad turned soggy and groggy, while even the Who-meets-Troggs retro-rock nugget “Flood’s New Light” is all snappy backbeat and breezy harmonies.
