Long Ride Home

Long Ride Home

Darrell Scott has recorded with or written songs for a slew of major artists. Along with having a gifted songwriting touch, he’s a prolific and in-demand guitarist and pedal steel player. He's also recorded prolifically as a solo act, and Long Ride Home—his seventh release—is as strong as anything else he’s done. There are remarkable songs here. Some are clearly autobiographical; others are sharp portraits and vivid slices of life. But whatever the subject matter, they're consistently charming, poignant, and witty. Blending honky-tonk, country, and folk, Scott delivers his fine stories with honeyed vocals and a pure approach. Naturally, the band is incredible. Scott is joined by Hargus “Pig” Robbins on piano, Dennis Crouch on upright bass, and Kenny Malone on drums—all Nashville heavies with impressive recording résumés. Given the richness of the material, they help turn Long Ride Home into something special. Guests Rodney Crowell, Guy Clark, Patty Griffin, Tim O’Brien, Lloyd Green, and John Cowan also rise to the occasion. The versatile and talented Scott never fails to impress.
