David

An upstart emcee out of East Oakland, Young Gully made a splash with his tribute album The Grant Station Project, dedicated to Oscar Grant. He's also dropped a ton of mixtapes (including four installments of Hustla Movement, The Tonite Show, and Definition of Gas) and found local success with a dope remix of Souls of Mischief's timeless classic "'93 'Til Infinity." With his uniquely raspy voice and lyrics for days, he's fast becoming one of the Bay Area's most impressive new jacks. David is arguably his best work to date. He casts himself in the role of the famed giant-slayer, going off over tight and impressively diverse production from frequent collaborator DJ Fresh. While he definitely reps for his hood and spits the usual messages about dissing haters, stacking paper, and smashing the ladies, he does it with a style and panache that the majority of likeminded rappers lack. Check out "High & Low (Lady of My Dreams)," "Ear to the Street," and the Toto-inspired "Weather the Storm."
