Bangers II - Scum of the Earth

Bangers II - Scum of the Earth

The follow-up to its 2009 debut album, Bangers, finds the Montreal quartet Barn Burner ramping up its anthemic party rock to the next level. Bangers II—Scum of the Earth opens with a title track that bursts at the seams with rapid-fire riffs, à la early Thin Lizzy. By the end of the following “Dark Side of the Barn,” the triumphant chorus, ear-boxing rhythms, and leads so hot they could sear a steak all come together to reveal that this album is a rock ‘n’ roll journey for the Fubar generation. You’ll be hard-pressed to find better party metal than the punch-throwing “Keg Stand and Deliver.” Similarly, "Skid Marks the Spot” is best listened to while wearing a tattered denim vest ripe with the aging fumes of stale libations. Enthusiasts of classic skate-rock bands like Big Boys, Hightower, JFA, and Minor Threat are sure to enjoy “Quest for the Cube,” an epic cube-gleaming command to seize life by the orbs. Conversely, the closing tune, “Ghost Jam,” simmers down to cook up a bluesy rocker akin to latter-day Blue Cheer.
