Move of Ten

Move of Ten

If you're skeptical about Autechre's decision to release two albums in less than four months, well, don't be. In fact, some longtime fans may even consider Move of Ten a better record than its rather epic companion piece, Oversteps. Why? Because it gets to the point faster, riding tidal waves of future-shocked funk and torrential acid tones for 10 tracks and a little more than 45 minutes. The only breathers are brief ones, from the stargazing soundscapes of "Iris Was a Pupil" to the uneasy listening of "Ylm0." Other than that, the IDM icons seem to have everything set to hyper-speed, as highly complex hooks are scrapped from some of the craziest headphone candy you'll unwrap all year. And hey, if you miss vintage Autechre records like Amber and Incunabula, there's always "M62" — a sleek & simple battering-ram beat, pinned to ambient techno textures that'll have you reaching for your old Aphex Twin 12-inches as well.
