On their self-titled second album, synth-shocked metalcore fiends Attack Attack! don't shy from throwing stylistic curveballs. Though it's tempting to chalk up these shifts to keyboardist Caleb Shomo taking on lead-vocal duties—those are his monster-like growls on "Renob, Nevada"—the entire band are just as instrumentally bold. "Smokahontas" conflates candy-coated electro-pop grooves with gruff, metallic lurches, "Shut Your Mouth" is all giddy, explosive EDM, and the string-swept post-hardcore of "I Swear I'll Change" is bolstered by Johnny Franck's clean vocals.
