Travels With Myself and Another

The second Future of the Left album expands on the punk-prog fury of the first, with a greater sense of muscular dynamics (“Arming Eritrea”), a wider range of topics for their withering rage (“Drink Nike,” “Lapsed Catholics”), and bigger snark bombs to drop on the self-righteous (“You Need Satan More Than He Needs You”). What’s more, they add pop touches to sweeten the rock bile. There’s disco fury in “I Am Civil Service” and girl-group harmonies in the otherwise explosive “Stand By Your Manatee.”
