Dutch Courage

Dutch Courage

aKING’s debut album arrived smack-bang in the middle of the Bellville Rock City boom. The Cape Town brought together two well-known Fokofpolisiekar musicians, guitarist Hunter Kennedy and drummer Jaco “Snakehead” Venter, with newcomers like gravel-voiced singer Laudo Liebenberg and bassist Hennie Van Halen. The result was something an entirely new Afrikaans phenomenon—listener-friendly sing-along rock anthems in English. Rooted in Liebenberg’s reverberating timbre and introspective lyricism, Dutch Courage weaved threads of rock, folk and country into a great sonic tapestry.
