To celebrate their 15th anniversary, The Grateful Dead assembled two distinct live albums from October 1980 shows at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco and Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The acoustic songs were released as Reckoning, and the electric performances were issued as Dead Set; they're the first official live albums that feature Brent Mydland on keyboards. While in the 21st century, it's easy for fans to hear many concerts as they were, this highlight reel is what many Generation X Deadheads cite as their first live exposure to the group. Sentimental favorite or not, the song selection here is wide. Phil Lesh's "Passenger" was never a concert staple, and the version of "New Minglewood Blues" shows that whatever shortcomings the Dead may have shown on their proper studio LPs didn't affect the live band. Better-than-the-studio versions of "Franklin's Tower" and "Fire on the Mountain" gave this album a key reason to exist in its day.
