The first half-dozen tracks on this mostly chronological collection capture the New Orleans band in its all-instrumental purity. The flawless funk of early jams "Cissy Strut" and "Pungee" eventually gave way to classic Mardi Gras chants like "Hey Pocky a-Way" and the voodoo urgency of "Fire on the Bayou." Their scorching cover of Earl King's "Trick Bag" suggests they may have been the city's best rock band too.
