With its hypnotic rhythm and sly vocal delivery, Mariah Angeliq’s “Perreito” introduced the Miami native as part of a new breed of Latin artist. Though the dry and cutting execution of the referential “Taxi” alongside Guaynaa indicates that formula was no fluke, her debut EP is not bound entirely to the allure of dembow. Normal further showcases the young singer’s range over the poppy R&B of “Gracias” and the trap-adjacent “Tócame.” When she combines these skill sets on the reggaetón-soul hybrid “Tu Castigo” with Lyanno, her promise and talent prove hard to deny.
