For his debut, Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds created Eulogy for Evolution, a birth-to-death journey in music, written for piano and string quartet in a language that defies categorization. A decade later, with very different aesthetic aims, he returns to the work and remasters and remixes it. The mature Arnalds, with 10 more years of life under his belt, folds time back on itself with wonderful results, the past filtered through experience and with the promise of hope long into the future. This 2017 reworking is both moving and full of optimism.
