SECT

SECT

Electronic producer Golden Features began his career completely anonymous. Influenced by underground hip-hop legend MF DOOM, he hid behind a mask, letting the music do the talking. He revealed himself as Sydney’s Tom Stell in 2014, but his debut album doesn't need theatrical secrecy to distinguish itself. SECT fully embraces the snarling darkness that lined his earlier EPs. Themes of disorientation and intoxication are unshielded: “Medicate, separate” and “I’m high, all day, all night, always,” for instance, are repeated as hypnotic mantras over thumping beats, like the soundtrack of a sweaty, strobe-light rave that picks up where Ed Banger Records’ mid-2000s heyday left off.
