Gravity

Gravity

For all of their grandstanding showmanship and outrageous humor, Big Kenny and John Rich have always had a knack for heart-melting ballads. The duo's more tender side is emphasized on their fifth album, Gravity. Freely mixing Nashville-style country with generous doses of pop and rock, Big & Rich expose their romantic scars, get nostalgic over old flames, and count their blessings in these tracks. “Lovin’ Lately” (featuring Tim McGraw), “Look at You,” and “Don’t Wake Me Up” strike a bittersweet note with simmering tempos and Eagles-style vocal harmonies. “Brand New Buzz” captures the thrill of falling in love with a jolt of upbeat energy. The duo step away from boy/girl matters for “That Kind of Town,” a skewed portrait of bad times back home. The album wraps up in hellacious fashion with “I Came to Git Down,” a raucous party anthem in the spirit of “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy).” Gravity shows that Big & Rich still know how to turn on the teardrops or shake a crowd’s collective booty as the mood strikes them.
