Australian cellist Richard Narroway performs six Bach suites with a clear understanding of modern scholarship and contemporary performance practice. His playing is appealingly fresh, full of life, and highly expressive. He has evidently lived long with these complex yet immediately communicative works, and he brings out the various voices with an ease that comes with experience. Each dance movement is with authority and naturalness, and the music sings as it surely should. This is a young musician’s view of these masterpieces—and a gloriously vivid one too.
