One Small Piece

One Small Piece

Having previously dealt in thrashy, amp-frazzling guitar music on a handful of early EPs, Brighton musician and recording engineer Theo Verney embraces something warmer on his compact debut. Bathed in hazy, magic hour atmosphere and impossibly smooth chords (see the noodly coda of “Stand In”), One Small Piece deftly rehabilitates classic rock for the modern age. “Enter the Daylight” packs a sleepily lyrical riff while “Driven East” is all slow-building piano and emotive 1970s bombast.
