Third Eye Blind shot to alt-rock stardom on the back of “Semi-Charmed Life,” which threw together scuzz-life lyrics, slacker rapping, and a maddeningly catchy hook (“do do do, do do-do dooo”) to create a power-pop postcard from the brink. Their 1997 debut’s anti-suicide ballad, “Jumper,” and autoharp-tinged portrait of regret, “How’s It Going to Be,” combine tenderness with catchy choruses; the slowly building album closer, “God of Wine,” reveals their rock-god bona fides. This reissue adds demos of “Semi-Charmed Life” and the too-controversial-for-1997 track “Slow Motion,” as well as a fuzzed-out cover of The Velvet Underground’s “Heroin.”
