Le voyage dans la lune

Air
Le voyage dans la lune

Inspired by Georges Melies' classic 1902 silent film of the same name (English translation: A Trip to the Moon), Air's seventh studio album is an engrossing mix of mood and experimentalism. This edition of the album includes the film. The French duo of Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Nicolas Godin play their usual vast array of instruments, creating otherworldly transcendence with synths, guitars, electric sitar, vibes, Mellotron, pianos, and banjo. One need no knowledge of the film to enjoy the cinematic sweep of the album's opening and closing music. It's a shame that "Lava" clocks in at less than three minutes; it could last an hour. For all its futuristic sounds, Air attempts them with an almost retro approach to space. "Moon Fever" recalls the soundtrack to a '70s sci-fi film more than anything from the 21st century, courtesy of a gently weeping Mellotron. Beach House's Victoria Legrand adds her bewitching vocals to the gravity-defying "Seven Stars." The Brooklyn electronic trio Au Revoir Simone contributes to the soothing "Who Am I Now?" Essential.
