Somersault

Somersault

Beach Fossils’ third album sees them distancing themselves from genre tags such as "chillwave," embracing their penchant for wistful melodies and buttressing their songs with expansive arrangements. The jangly guitars on "Tangerine" have a sparkle that the band once would have disavowed, and "Down the Line" is propelled by a muscular bassline that gives its tale of shrugging off the nine-to-five world some added heft. “Saint Ivy” even has an orchestral sweep worthy of Burt Bacharach, incorporating lush strings and fluttering woodwinds.
