To Hell with God

To Hell with God

You can always count on the hard-working Deicide to release albums on a consistent basis. Here they appear full of steam, bursting at the seams with creative energy. “To Hell with God,” “Conviction,” and “Angels of Hell” are some of the most technically demanding songs of the group’s lifetime, but there's not a moment when they're not wholly in sync and on top of their riffs. Guitarists Jack Owen and Ralph Santolla brought new blood to the group when they joined in 2004, but the band's music continues to live and die with drummer Steve Asheim. Regardless of what's happening up front with the guitars or with the ogre-like vocals of Glen Benton, Asheim is the furnace that propels these songs to another level. The feats of strength displayed on “Witness of Death,” “Empowered Blasphemy,” and “Into the Darkness You Go” move beyond mere drumming and enter a realm of supernatural athleticism.
