Chrome Sparks

Chrome Sparks was written while the eponymous electronic producer flitted between two completely opposing environments—the frenetic buzz of Brooklyn and the calm isolation of an upstate New York cabin. Unsurprisingly, it reflects both extremes: flurried opener “Rocket” is hypnotic and hyperenergetic, and the breezy “Sugar” glides through carefree, spacey grooves. But it also finds balance between the poles, evoking an atmosphere that is somehow futuristic and nostalgic at the same time. The album’s tail end is particularly sweet, with the gorgeous synth wave of “Attack Sustain Release” and “To Eternity,” which feels like a dreamy homage to Pink Floyd.
