Afrodeezia

Afrodeezia

A versatile bassist and multi-instrumentalist, Marcus Miller presents his own vision of the African diaspora here through sessions with dozens of players from West Africa, South America, the Caribbean, and several cities spread across the U.S. Many songs very clearly reflect their settings: i.e., the percolating roots of “Hylife,” “B’s River,” and others, as well as the slamming New Orleans funk-jazz of “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” the dancing samba groove of “We Were There,” and the gospel tinge of “Preacher’s Kid.” There is the outrage of “I Can’t Breathe,” too, but Afrodeezia's overall message is that a love for music is something we can all share.
