A Detroit emcee known for his comical lyricism, hipster-friendly fashion sense, and extensive discography, Danny Brown has been making moves since the early '00s. But he didn't really start to get mainstream recognition until 2010, when he dropped a one-off collabo with Tony Yayo called Hawaiian Snow. Since then he's been working nonstop, dropping an avalanche of mixtapes, touring relentlessly, and recording well-received albums for labels like Rappers I Know (The Hybrid) and Fool's Gold (XXX, Old). Originally released back in 2008, Hot Soup is a little rawer than his later work, but that's not a bad thing at all. With songs about his early hustling days (the rambunctious "Ten G's a Week"), female infatuation (the Slum Village–esque "Head"), and hometown pride ("Streets of Detroit"), there are plenty of quality jams here, not to mention solid features from Chip$, Rapper Big Pooh, and Nick Speed.
