The Soundtrack of Summer

The Soundtrack of Summer

Back in the late '70s and early '80s, both of these bands were absolutely huge. Foreigner had six platinum or multiplatinum albums in a row, were (and still are) mainstays on the radio, and are responsible for many gigantic hits. Styx also sold millions of records and racked up more than a dozen Top 40 singles during their heyday. As the '80s progressed and new musical styles began to flourish, both groups faded from the limelight, dismissed by the kids as old-fashioned and relegated to dollar bins and classic rock playlists. They never really disappeared, though, continuing to tour and record under various altered lineups. The Soundtrack of Summertime was released in 2014, while they toured together with original Eagles guitarist Don Felder. Many of their signature songs are included here, including "Hot Blooded," "Cold as Ice," and "Renegade," while everybody teams up for a rousing version of "Hotel California." It should be noted that these are all brand-new recordings, not the originals. If you're a hardcore fan and can get over the absence of some key players, this is still a nice nostalgic collection.
