Cyncerely, C3

Cyncerely, C3

It’s unlikely that you’d stumble upon Cyncerely, C3 without the knowledge that C3 (Christian Casey Combs) is the son of Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs. It’s also unlikely that you’d be unable to piece this together after a listen or two. Over the course of Cyncerely, C3, King Combs is entirely his father’s son, having distilled that familiar audacious swagger, along with a relaxed, monotone delivery and a predilection toward danceable sample-driven production. All this is to take nothing from Christian himself: He is as good a rapper as any of his father’s cowriters made the elder out to be, and may have an even more solid grasp on his identity as worry-free playboy having grown up in the shadow of unparalleled jigginess. King Combs sounds most at home when he’s kicking game to women (“Young Roman$e,” “Good to Ya”) but is clearly having fun rapping alongside his CYN crew on “Basement,” as well as with featured guests Jeremih, Tee Grizzley, and Ty Dolla $ign. Buzzing talents like Smooky MarGielaa, 1TakeJay, and AzChike round out a healthy guest list, confirming that if anything else runs in the Combs bloodline, it’s an ear for talent.
