Still Stuck In Your Throat

Still Stuck In Your Throat

More than twenty years after the release of their debut album, Fishbone remain an irresistible whirlwind of musical styles and adolescent exuberance. With Still Stuck In Your Throat, these veterans (now in their forties) have made a party album that outperforms the best the Warped Generation has to offer. With its manic honking sax solo and donkey sound effects, album opener “Jack Ass Brigade” appeals to the 15-year-old skater in all of us. “Party With Saddam” is the group’s own “Devil In A Blue Dress,” a barnstormer to tear down the dance floor of the rowdiest frat house. Besides its unparalleled energy and instrumental virtuosity, Still Stuck In Your Throat boasts something few pop-punk bands possess: a soulful vocalist. Like the hellion offspring of Jackie Wilson and H.R. from Bad Brains, lead vocalist Angelo Moore is as capable of tongue-twisting acrobatics (“Skank ‘N Go Nuttz”) as he is of classic soul testifying (“Forever Moore”). Still Stuck In Your Throat proves that Southern California skate park music can still be elastic and unpredictable. The youngsters could learn a lot from this crew of expert eccentrics.
