The Inevitable End

The Inevitable End

With The Inevitable End, the Swedish electronic duo that took the chill room by storm with 2001's Melody A.M. bid farewell to the full-length album format; this will be their last. Forget waxing nostalgic, though: these tracks continue to explore the dark textures and gnarly moods of recent releases. The sinister thump of "Monument" contorts around vocals by Robyn, while the understated "Compulsion" courses with murky energy. But this goodbye is bittersweet: "Sordid Affair" and "Running to the Sea" are both mellifluous and energetic, and the snaking grooves of the closing track, "Thank You," seem to nod toward the pair's beloved debut.
