Cocaine

Repping for Houston and the Screwed Up Click, Z-RO is both extremely prolific (dropping over a dozen albums and countless mixtapes) and very underrated, relatively unknown in fact outside of the South. His rhymes focus primarily on real-life struggles on the block and in prison, though they're delivered more as cautionary warnings than the usual 'I'm-so-gangster' boasts. Rocking a storytelling style clearly influenced by Scarface and Pimp C, but unafraid to break into song à la Devin the Dude or Big Moe, his vibe is both mellow and melodic, supported by low-impact, Southern-fried beats (mostly produced by himself) heavy on the mid-tempo snares and dreamy keyboard work. Quality Texas hip-hop from a cult favorite bound to blow up, key tracks here include "Thank You" featuring Lil Flip, "Haterz Got Me Wrong," and the vivid drug-dealer chronicles of "On My Grind."
