Parallels: Shellac Reworks (Beethoven) by Christian Löffler - EP

This stunningly beautiful EP features bold reinventions of Beethoven by electronic music producer and visual artist Christian Löffler. Using four fragments of Beethoven recordings from almost a century ago, Löffler creates something entirely new. He opens with the second movement of Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony, its 1930 shellac recording bathed in the most glorious electronic effects. The Fifth Symphony’s Andante, its original from 1928, morphs into a gently pulsating dance track, while a 1929 recording by the Berlin Philharmonic of Beethoven’s most poignant moment from the “Eroica” Symphony weaves in and out of a glorious, hypnotic tapestry of sound. The final track, “Freiyheit,” brings a euphoric feel to the “Egmont” Overture, its 1927 recording calling to us across the decades through a prism of blurred textures and otherworldly vocals.
